This was our first venture into the world of organising a cycle sportive and I think that we did pretty well. The event covers a 100K (62-miles) course starting and finishing in Devizes to raise funds for Youth Action Wiltshire. Riders will be taken on a circuit around the periphery of Salisbury Plain and the beautiful Avon Valley.
The event will start at Devizes Leisure Centre and both the 100K and 50K routes will head to the South East out of Devizes on the Nursteed Road leading onto the A342 before splitting just before four miles in the hamlet of Lydeway.
The 100K route then goes westwards along the B3098 following the escarpment of Salisbury Plain going through Urchfont, Market Lavington, Erlestoke and Westbury. The route then picks up on the A350 for 3-miles into Warminster where the route heads along Woodcock and the B3414 before joining the A36 for one mile until Heytesbury where the B390 is joined to cut across Salisbury Plain. At 30-miles in the village of Chitterne will be the first feed station on the 100K route.
The route then continues across the Plain through the villages of Shrewton, Larkhill, Durrington and Bulford. The route then heads North on the Milston Road out of Bulford on National Cycle way 45 through to Netheravon (where the 50K re-joins the route) and onto the second feed station at Enford. The route continues North alongside the River Avon to Upavon and then continues on the A345 for two miles where the course heads towards Woodborough before turning on to Etchilhampton before reaching Devizes for the final miles back to the event headquarters.
The 50K route follows the 100K route as far as Lydeway where it splits and continues on along the A342 for a further 5-miles to Rushall where it then heads South along the A345. After four miles at Netheravon the course presents a Left hand turn along Mill Road where after one mile the 100K course is re-joined just before the feed station at Enford.
As per the 100K, the route continues North to Upavon and then continues on the A345 for two miles where the course heads towards to Woodborough before turning on to Etchilhampton before reaching Devizes for the final miles back to the event headquarters.
All finishers will receive a medal and a High5 goody pack - Profits from the event will be going to the young persons charity: "Youth Action Wiltshire".
