Wiltshire Road Race League

Stampede Sports are delighted to announce that The Great Chalfield 10K  has been selected by Wiltshire Athletic Association to be Race #6 in the 2020 Wiltshire Road Race League.

As well as The Hullavington Full Marathon being the county championships for the distance, the acompanying Hullavington Marathon Team Relay has been selected by the Association to be a bonus team event in the League.

The Great Chalfield 10K

Congratulations to Simon Gilbert of Devizes Running Club and Zelda Ackerman from Royal Wootton Bassett who ran out winners at the 9th running of the Great Chalfield 10K at Broughton Gifford.

Two hundred and forty runners lined up in brilliant early evening sunshine on The Common in Broughton Gifford for the ninth running of the Great Chalfield 10K road race. Organised by Stampede Sports the race took runners over a certified accurate ten kilometre course passing both Holt Manor and Great Chalfield Manor on what has been described as the most picturesque 10K course in Wiltshire. Making light of the undulating course was Simon Gilbert of Devizes Running Club who improved on his third placed position from last year to take victory in a time of thirty four minutes and nineteen seconds ahead of Joseph Donworth from Frome Running Club and Ian Barrett of Cirencester AC. Alex Harris and Joe Bowerbank supported winner Simon to take the Men’s team prize back to Devizes.

In the ladies race Zelda Ackerman from Royal Wootton Bassett had a close fought battle in the finishing straight with clubmate Anel Neville and ahead of Clare Wood of Avon Valley Runners who along with Natalie Freeman and Jennifer Marlow took the Ladies Team prize..

Age group awards went to Ian Hackett of Swindon Striders (MV40); Ade Hurren of Corsham Running Club (MV50); Laura Midwinter of Corsham Running Club (FV40); Jackie Evans of Swindon Striders (FV50).

It is hoped that the event will have raised £1,800 for Broughton Gifford and Holt Scout Group.

Hullavington Half Marathon & 5K – 2019

Congratulations to Holly Rush of Avon Valley Runners who ran out as the overall winner in the inaugural Hullavington Half Marathon with Michael Tune of Swindon Harriers in second place as the first male finisher.

Simon Gilbert of Devizes Running Club headed the field in the 5K with Fiona Price of Avon Valley Runners the leading lady.

The Wiltshire 10 – 2019

Congratulations to Ricky Montacute of the Royal Engineers and Jess Sanzo from Bristol who were the winners of the ninth running of the Wiltshire 10 Road race at Melksham.

A record six hundred runners signed up for the ninth running of the Wiltshire 10 sponsored by The Wiltshire Times. In somewhat chilly conditions the field set off from Lowborne Road in Melksham town centre and headed out to Lacock, after looping around Reybridge the runners headed back towards Melksham and the finish alongside the River Avon in King George V Playing fields. After sitting in second place for most of the race Ricky Montacute of the Royal Engineers made his move in the final half mile to overhaul Anthony Glover of Westbury Harriers to take victory in fifty-seven minutes with Robert Farley of Bitton Road Runners coming in for third place. In fourth place Andrew Tarrant of Southville Running Club led his club mates: Bryan Walsh, William Smith and Sergio Benetiz Pozo home for the Men’s team prize.

The ladies race saw Jess Sanzo from Bristol take victory, completing the gently undulating course in 62-minutes 49-seconds, ahead of  Erin Willmers from Salisbury and Victoria Ratcliffe of Somer AC. The Bitton Road Runners trio of Liz Sanigar, Lauren Price and Rachel Stowell took the Ladies team prize.

Other prize winners: 1st MV40 – Simon Gilbert of Devizes Running Club; 1st MV50 – Michael Tune of Swindon Harriers; 1st MV60 – David Wright of Cirencester AC; 1st FV40 – Rachel Stowell of Bitton Road Runners; 1st FV50 – Diane Hier of Avon Valley Runners; 1st FV60 – Sharon Smith of Running Somewhere Else.

All finishers received a specially minted medal featuring the Wiltshire county flag and a copy of the Wiltshire Times.

White Horse Gallop – 2018

A record two hundred runners signed up for the White Horse Gallop trail run which this year featured as race #2 in the Wiltshire Off-Road Race League.

Leading the field home over the challenging 8-mile course out from Leighton Recreation Centre in Westbury were James Donald of Team Bath AC and Karen Hacker of Chippenham Harriers.

With the clear skies the runners were afforded some great views across the county and beyond, once they had conquered the thigh burning climb up the embankment next to the horse itself.

In the runners up spot came Dan Piper of Avon Valley Runners, closely followed by Christopher Elmer of Team Bath who along with Alberto Lapedrizo claimed the Men’s team prize, whilst the ladies team prize went to Avon Valley Runners with 2nd placed Leah Sartain, third placed Gemma Lawton and Jolene Farion scoring the points.

Age category awards went to: MV40 – Gary MacAlister of Avon Valley Runners; FV40 – Gill Pearson of Running for Time; MV50 – Heath Bampton of Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds; FV50 – Sam Kelly of Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds; MV60 – Peter Allen of Corsham Running Club; FV60 – Daphne Marion of Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds.
